I was born and raised in Painesville, Ohio which is east of Cleveland. When I was 15, I took flying lessons and obtained a student license. To get my student license, I had to have a physical with a flight surgeon. At that time, I was considering teaching or becoming a nurse. The flight surgeon said, "how about becoming a doctor?" We teach patients all the time.
I attended Ohio State University from 1984 to 1988 and received my degree in Chemical Engineering. During my sophomore year, I confirmed that I wanted to attend medical school. I attended Ohio State University College of Medicine from 1988 to 1992. I then moved to Washington DC and did my residency in OB/GYN at Washington Hospital Center. I finished my residency having my daughter, Adriana.
I spent the next 8 years practicing both OB and Gyn at Medstar Montgomery Hospital. Since then, I have been doing mostly office Gynecology. Practicing just Gynecology, I found myself with some free time and decided that it was time to get healthy. I initially started running with some friends and then started taking spin classes at the gym. I started swimming and participating in triathlons. I worked my way up to 100 mile bike rides, half ironman triathlons, and several marathons. I have never been thin, and even with all my exercise, I just found my weight increasing each year.
Patients would ask for advice on how to lose weight and the only thing I could offer was exercise more and eat less, which did not work for me. In 2012, I decided to study weight loss medicine. With a low carbohydrate, ketogenic diet with Ideal Protein, I lost 50 pounds. I opened my weight loss management center in June of 2012 and became certified in Obesity Medicine in November of 2012. Along with Nattaly and Mr. Palomino, we have enjoyed working with individual patients to help them reach their weight loss goal. Let us help you with your weight loss goals!!!
